Moving to Hugo + Cloudflare

After having build the blog in Jekyll and hosting it through Github Pages, I found that the more I wanted to add the clunkier the website became. During development, I was also not too happy with the longer build time it took for my site to go through the Github Pages build process.

Additionally, it was really bothering me that with this setup and my free Github subscription, I was only able to get it working when my repo was set to public. Meaning that every change, including markdown, was tracked and visible. This might not be a problem when everything you write is perfect before publishing, but I like to scrabble and have many things in progress most of the time. Also, spelling mistakes are always possible.

In 2025 I started keeping track of projects I was doing because I felt the need to log my progress. To share what I have learned, decided to build this site and publish my posts. One of my personal goals for 2026 is to build a product that has a positive impact and track my progress through blogging it, let’s see how that goes.

Currently I am working as a consultant where I work on various projects of different durations and complexities. In most cases, the work you have delivered at a client, remains at the client. To be able to show my professional growth and keep an overview of my deliverables, I decided a blog would be the best format.

I would consider myself as an ambitious person that is willing to take some risks to take a look on the other side. Having studied and worked in the Netherlands for 10 years I decided to move to Berlin together with my partner. I decided that I wanted to take this move as an opportunity to get a better understanding of the direction I would like my career to go in.

Playing around with javascript

For this post I wanted to see what kind of interactions are possible using Javascript. I will add new projects over time.

soundboard - Including a bass panel and some simple sounds supported by the Web Audio API.
artscript - Generate a Mondrian on a canvas.
dodge the junk - A full screen game, collect the green blocks and avoid the red ones.

The reason I started this

One of things I enjoy the most, is explaining things, either complex or simple. I enjoy seeing someone putting the pieces together and understanding something. Something that was first difficult, confusing or complex, becomes clear and logical.

Besides teaching I really love to build, this is also one of the reason I became fond of coding. You have various possible building blocks that you can bring together, creating something new and unique. When coding I always try to remember that anything can be done, and that is rather a question of resources and time, always stuck with me. While coding can sometimes remain to be vague and obscure. I enjoy similar satisfaction when I am building or repairing something in the house or when I am practicing sculpting or painting.
